About Abacus School

Abacus system with the Western science of Brain Gym. Developed by Mr. Kelvin Tham in 1997, this program has significantly advanced Abacus Training in Malaysia. The current enhanced version of this program uses Abacus and Brain Gym techniques to enhance the interaction between the left and the right brain.

SIP Abacus and Brain Gym program is currently available in 8 countries. More than 3,25,000 children have benefited from this program from 1000 learning centres spread across these countries. In India, this program was initiated in January 2002. The efficacy of this program has seen more than 1,00,000 children trained & developed in 18 states (Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi (NCR), Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Pondicherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, and West Bengal) by March 2009. We are now going into smaller towns to help children improve life skills.

We train children aged 7-12 years. The knowledge of numbers from 0-9 is all that is required at the beginning. "The harder I practice, the luckier I get" is the mantra for this skill based program.

This “Abacus and Brain Gym” program is a system of education that maximizes the potential of the child’s brain. The process of learning abacus methodology is known as Mental Arithmetic. Working on abacus optimizes and integrates the functions of the left and the right brain during the early years. Scientific research has proved that the use of Abacus stimulates the nerves in the fingers and sends message through the neurons. This continuous process of information transfer energizes the brain. Brain Gym exercises designed by Dr. Paul Dennison enhances communication flow between functional centres and removes mental blocks resulting in whole brain development.
